I am a big coffee aficionado and just love a good strong cup of coffee in the morning.  The Senseo coffee pods Dark Roast is one of my most often bought flavor for my machine.  Personally I think that the flavor is just strong enough to hit that sweet spot, and also produces the right of caffeinated jolt.  Senseo claims that their dark roast coffee pods are pleasantly strong and while I agree with that description I think they need to add full bodied to it.

Not many people know this but Douwe Egberts, the coffee roaster behind the Senseo machine, has been brewing coffee since 1753 and I personally feel that it shines through with their Senseo coffee pods Dark Roast variety.  Having brewed over 1200 cups of Senseo coffee pods Dark Roast this year alone (I know I have a coffee addiction what can I say?) I have still yet to come across a bad cup from this pod.  I’m not sure if it is the way that they create the Senseo coffee pods or what but each and every cup has come out identical to the one before which is surprise to me.

So what does the Senseo Coffee Pods Dark Roast taste like?

The Senseo coffee pods Dark Roast is what I would consider a dark, broody cup with a lot of mixed flavors and the beans are sourced from around the world, not one specific place.  I have read places online who claim many different sources but to honest I kind of take those with a grain of salt.  All I can tell you is that this Senseo coffee pods Dark Roast variety really is my go to cup of java in the morning.

What is the Senseo coffee pod?

The Senseo coffee pod is, as photographed to the right, a pod that contains coffee.  A pod type of coffee brewing involves the infusion of water at a high rate, kind of like espresso, through the pod resulting in an awesome cup of the tasty beverage.

oast is pleasantly strong and while I do agree I feel that it still requires a 2nd pod during the brewing process.

Senseo does a very nice job of packaging, as evidenced below, and I feel that a great deal of care is put into making a nice looking machine (also shown below).  Materials feel solid to the touch and give an overall long lasting feeling to it.  The newer units are chrome in nature and look very suave and sophisticated.  Quite a long time ago Senseo actually made different colored versions of their basic units but black (other than eBay of course) is the only way to get them now.

Personally I own an original unit from way back when they first came out with them.  I believe I actually won the unit in a contest which is good marketing since, much like a razor, you will always need refills.  In the coming years I have however noticed a dwindling amount of supplies of the Senseo coffee pod in my usual favorite grocer thus I turned to the online world and eventually built my own store for these little gems.

Senseo SL7810/65 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine

This unit, pictured left, was first introduced by Senseo a few years back and really revolutionized the way we make and think of coffee at home.  Utilizing a single (or double depending on strength – I prefer the double!) pod in the chamber, the unit then forces through water using jets at an incredibly high speed through the coffee pod to make a wonderful cup of joe.  A few years ago there was a red, blue and black version but Phillips have since limited the unit to black only.  There are quite a few different types of pods available with different flavors so check out our store for the unit and pods too!

Senseo SL7832/55 Single Serve Supreme Coffee Machine, Chrome

The most recently introduced unit from Phillips in the Senseo line up includes this beautiful chrome unit with some interesting new features which sets a new standard for the coffee maker.  The new unit includes an LCD with programmable liquid amounts allowing for a more customized cuppa, adjustable height water spouts to accommodate alternate cup sizes and a larger overall coffee making capacity.  Both units brew a cup including power up with 45 seconds – amazing!

A little known secret about coffee pods for Senseo is that they don't have to be the genuine deal.  That's right you don't have to use the actual coffee pods for Senseo.  In fact there are a number of different methods available all over the web that teach you how to make your own pods or offer grey market pods for a much, much lower cost.  However, the one thing they conveniently forget to mention is the downsides of not using the actual coffee pods for Senseo.

Reported downsides of not using the official coffee pods for Senseo machines:

• Clogged machines
• Exploding pods
• Weak coffee
• Bitter coffee
• "Locked" machines – too much pressure builds in the machine
• Voided warranty

Make sure you buy legitimate official coffee pods for Senseo coffee makers to avoid a real problem with your Senseo machine.  I have read reports on various websites where the most common problem involves a "locking" of the mechanism where you enter the pods.  The reason this occurs is the nozzles fill up with coffee grinds then cannot release the pressure – sometimes to resulting in exploding pods!

If you use the official pods you won't get the problems I listed above and to this date I have not had a single problem with my machine.  My only complaint was the lack of a larger water tank and they have since released that unit which has cut down my water refills.  And really, if having to refill water and wait 45 more seconds is the only complaint don't you think the machine is awesome too?

As the name suggests, the Dark Roast coffee is as dark as Senseo makes and if you are a fan of the french roast type, full bodied coffee with a smooth taste.  This is probably my top pick as well since I like a good "wake your butt up" kind of caffeine kick first thing in the morning.  Even the espresso pods can not come close to the flavor!

Senseo Decaffeinated Coffee

Believe it or not but the second best selling Senseo coffee pod is the decaff variety!  I find it absolutely amazing really that this can be the second selling just because I have a real hard time imagining that many people drinking decaff! Having never actually ordered it myself, I GOTTA have my kick, I can only go off Amazon reviews and they are stellar.  Most reviews report a smooth taste with no bitterness or weakness (which you can sometimes find in decaff).  The flavor is comparable to a mild or medium roast but again the machine itself makes a perfect cup every time!

Senseo Espresso Coffee Pods

If you are a big fan of coffee, like me, you are definetely going to want to get your hands on a couple of packages of the espresso Senseo coffee pods.  Containing exactly the same strenght and flavor you would expect to find in a regular espresso these pods just rock!  Senseo recommends using a special espresso pod holder but to be honest I have used these just fine in the regular pod holders.  One word describes these pods – YUMMY!
